Past student or new teacher? Tanner Hoskinds is known as both at Melbourne High School. Starting his first year of teaching, Mr. Hoskinds recently joined the MHS team for the 2015-16 school year.

A 2010 graduate of MHS, he received his bachelor’s degree in history from Arkansas State University and returned home to be a Bearkat once again. Mr. Hoskinds currently helps coach the 7-12 boys and girls basketball teams, and applies his favorite quote when doing so: “If you fail to prepare, you’re preparing to fail.”

Mr. Hoskinds, who is engaged to Whitney Davis, says his favorite part about teaching is “happily saying ‘Good Morning’ to all the students and hearing their mixed responses!” His plan as a teacher is to take the role of facilitator in his classroom, wherein his students will be independent, goal-driven learners.

Although new to the profession, he already has a message to share about his students: “If you let them see that you are doing your best for them, they will do their best for you.”
