Melbourne High School is proud to announce a new addition to the faculty. Mr. Blake Cooper, who teaches 9th-10th grade English, earned his bachelor’s degree in history and English from the University of Central Arkansas and his master’s degree in secondary education from Harding University. He taught at Midland High School for 10 years before taking the position at Melbourne High, his alma mater. Mr. Cooper is married to Beth Cooper, who is also employed by the district, and they have two boys, Lane, age 6, and Seth, age 3.

When asked what his favorite part of teaching is, he says it’s interacting with the students and “getting any student to realize the fun and importance of reading.” Mr. Cooper believes that if teachers adequately define their expectations, teenagers will do what it takes to meet them. He also believes the best way to handle a classroom is to create a fast-paced learning environment that maintains the students’ interests and keeps them engaged.

With that being said, he does not deny that it can be difficult to bring energy to the classroom every single day and every single class period. But Mr. Cooper is up for the challenge, and Melbourne High School is lucky to have him.
