Thanks to a grant from the Arkansas Arts Council, TheatreSquared, Northwest Arkansas’ professional theatre company, visited Melbourne High School’s campus on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

The company, which was recently named by the American Theatre Wing as one of the top 10 emerging theatre companies in the nation, performed their production titled “The Poe Show” in front of an audience of students. The show is an informative comedy about the one and only Edgar Allan Poe the famous dark poet of the 19th century. The actors portrayed characters from many of Poe’s greatest works, such as “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” and “The Raven.”

Tenth grade student Alisha Hollaway said, “I liked it! It was very interesting and ‘punny’!” Kolten Smith, who is also in 10th grade, commented, “It was very educational and funny at the same time!” Mrs. Amanda Patrick, who teaches drama for the district, was instrumental in bringing the production to MHS, which was a hit among the students!
