Sixth grade students from both Melbourne and Mt. Pleasant Elementary were given tours of the high school on Tuesday, May 10th. Their tour guides were tenth and eleventh grade Beta Club students who were on hand to show them around, taking the soon-to-be seventh graders to meet teachers, to visit classrooms, and to see what all the high school has to offer them. With about 5 students to a group, Beta members also took the students to see the science and computer labs, art studio, agri building, library, band department, student union, cafeteria, and gymnasium. Questions like, “Will teachers give me a tardy my first day?” and “Is high school hard?” were asked, giving the young people the chance to be assured by the older kids that they have nothing to fear.   Beta Club Sponsor Cindy Poole commented, “Every year, I watch with pride as these young men and women become instant role models. This is one of the most important events that Beta Club sponsors; beginning high school can be a scary moment for young students, so having upperclassmen tell them there is nothing to worry about can ease a lot of stress on that first day in August.”
