Melbourne High School has welcomed Mrs. Cheryl Seay as its new family and consumer sciences instructor. Mrs. Seay, having moved to the high school from Melbourne Elementary, is in her 12th year of teaching. In addition to her time at Melbourne, she has taught business education and world history at Danville , Fourche Valley, and Dardanelle high schools. She brings with her a long list of qualifications that include receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech/Graphic Design from Arkansas Tech University and her Masters of Art in Teaching from the University of Arkansas Monticello; Mrs. Seay also has experience in marketing and public relations. For Melbourne, she teaches parenting and child development, clothing and housing, foods and food safety, and family and consumer sciences; she is also the cheerleading coach. She has been married to Jeff Seay for almost 17 years and has 3 children, Ethan, Logan, and Brooklyn. Mrs. Seay’s biggest inspiration has been her dad, who is a retired high school math and science teacher. “My dad loves to teach and still helps tutor and home school kids. My best teaching practices have come from him.” Her favorite part of teaching is seeing the “light bulb” moment when students discover they have learned and accomplished something. Mrs. Seay says the hardest part of her job is knowing the home life of some of the kids and wants others to know that teenagers still need and want their parents’ attention. She tries to live by her educational philosophy: “Students may not remember what you taught them, but they will remember how you treated them.” Without a doubt, Mrs. Seay strives to help students reach their full potential, making her the perfect fit for MHS!
