Students at Melbourne High School enjoyed spirited and fun-filled activities last week. With the campus “painted” red, white, and blue and the students filled with excitement, Melbourne High School celebrated its annual Fall Royalty during the week of October 3rd-7th. From painting banners to decorating mums to preparing for pep rally skits, the tradition of having a Fall Royalty at MHS was enjoyed by students and faculty alike as they competed in each event. Students showed their support for their teams by dressing up on Monday’s Hat Day, Tacky Tuesday, class color Wednesday, Thursday’s Pajama Day, and Red, White and Blue day on Friday. All of the spirit-filled activities were in preparation for the Fall Royalty ceremony, which took place at 6:30 p.m. right before the football game on Friday night, October 7th. The 2016 Fall Royalty, having been selected by the student body, were:
For 7th grade: Kinley McCarn, maid and Ethan Seay, escort
For 8th grade: Nancy Wann, maid and Nathan McCollum, escort
For 9th grade: Ashton Cowan, maid and John Gardner, escort
For 10th grade: Nikki McSpadden, maid and Silas Motes, escort
For 11th grade: Makayla Carter, maid and Blake Howard, escort
The two senior maids were Kaylee Guthrie, escorted by Kyle Minyard, and Natalie Cooper, escorted by Jackson Herrington. During the Friday morning pep rally, Kaylee Guthrie was announced as this year’s 2016 Fall Royalty Queen and was formally crowned during Friday night’s ceremony.
Melbourne High School would like to thank all of the Bearkatz supporters and fans who attended Friday night’s game to recognize its Fall Royalty and to cheer on the Katz as they took on the Clinton Yellowjackets.
