Melbourne High School Spanish students celebrated Mexico’s El Día de Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) on November 1st and 2nd. The Mexican holiday consists of family members gathering together to celebrate the lives of their deceased relatives. Students in Spanish I and Spanish II learned about the holiday and imitated traditional Mexican customs by making calacas (skeletons), papeles picados (cut paper decorations), and máscaras (masks). To end the unit, students enjoyed a fiesta complete with authentic Mexican dishes and decorations.
