Cole Lamb and Tristan Weaver, members of the Melbourne High School fishing team, recently reeled in a first place finish at Greers Ferry Lake in a fishing tournament sponsored by the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund. With a scholarship up for grabs, Lamb and Weaver netted 10.5 pounds of fish as they competed against several other teams in their division. “Fishing in these tournaments has been an exciting experience for both of us. It allows us to do what we love and pursue our dreams at a young age,” Weaver said. Both of the young fishermen received a $4,000 scholarship for their performance. Lamb was just as excited about the big win. “I never thought fishing would lead to a college scholarship. It will help me out tremendously, and hopefully we can win more next year!” The fishing team has represented Melbourne well, with the boys winning another tournament last week at Bull Shoals. The faculty advisor for the Melbourne team is Greg Manry with Bryant Lamb serving as boat captain. MHS would like to thank all of the team’s sponsors and supporters for making this special event possible.
