On Friday, May 12, 2017, a gym full of family members and supportive friends watched as the 2017 Melbourne High School graduates made their final appearance as MHS students. With the band playing the traditional tune of “Pomp and Circumstance,” the young men and women made their way to their seats in anticipation of receiving their high school diplomas. Co-Valedictorian Caeden Wolfe gave the invocation and Co-Valedictorians Kyle Minyard and Ethan Phillips welcomed the attendees to the event. State Representative Michelle Gray encouraged the graduates to not fear what is behind the many doors they will encounter in life and to always be proud of who they are. Afterwards, Principal Jim Carroll, Superintendent Dennis Sublett, School Board President Phil Ferguson, and Dean of Students Kelley Don Webb recognized the graduates and presented them with their diplomas. Once tassels were turned and the applause died down, Salutatorian Jonathan Powell gave the benediction. Escorts for the event were juniors Elijah Conley and Josie Love. Ushers were Ashtyn Bell, Makayla Carter, Jared Chaney, Faith Daigle, Grace Daigle, Kaylee Hooper, Ryan Moxley, Levi Wall, ShayAnn Welch, and Tyler Wortham. Class sponsors of the 2017 graduating class were Melody Carroll, Blake Cooper, Scott Hayes, Cheryl Seay, Jeff Seay, and Sandra Taylor.
