Melbourne High School took time out to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its athletes at a recent athletic banquet. A large crowd showed up to share in the event, which included a tasty dinner and presentation of awards. Athletic Director Kevin McCarn called upon the district’s coaches to one by one recognize MHS athletes in baseball, softball, basketball, football, cross country, track, golf, archery, fishing, and cheerleading. Sharing the many Bearkat achievements attained during the 2016-17 school year, coaches presented plaques and certificates to the young athletes in various categories and honored those senior athletes who would not be returning. The “Inspirational Athlete of the Year” award was given to Kyle Minyard by Farm Bureau Representative Phillip Steed for his work ethic and determination on and off the field; he was also presented the Burlsworth Award, named after the late Brandon Burlsworth, who played for the University of Arkansas before being drafted to play for the Indianapolis Colts.
